The Faculty of Philosophy gives its students a broad understanding of the humanities. All of the humanities, as well as some of the arts are represented in the Faculty´s curricula. The areas in which the Faculty offers instruction include history, archaeology, ethnology, philosophy, modern languages and literature, classical philology and painting. As the humanities, by definition, are oriented to research and instruction focusing on the Estonian cultural subjects, the Faculty is a major centre for the development of disciplines relating to national history and culture. In the field of Uralic and Finno-Ugric languages and ethnology the UT thus acts as a bridge connecting our western and northern kinspeople (Hungarians and Finns) to the Eastern ones. As a reflection of contemporary linguistics, recent years have added a new trend – computational processing of language texts.
